Sanlúcar de Barrameda is Spain’s 2022 gastronomic capital…so we should expect the city to have stellar breakfast and brunch options too, right? Personally, breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, and I’d be lying if I said we didn’t go out for breakfast or brunch in Sanlúcar at least once a week. 🍳🥓
Some quick tips for eating breakfast in southern Spain:
- Most places serve fresh orange juice (zumo de naranja natural)
- Coffee is sometimes served in a large shot glass
- For less intense coffee, order a café manchado (coffee with extra milk)
- Servers usually ask what type of bread you prefer (ex. integral = wholegrain)

So where are my favorite places to go in Sanlúcar? Check out the list below. If I’m missing one let me know in the comments section, I’m always looking for new places to try!
Avísame en los comentarios abajo si hace falta añadir un sitio más a mi lista, me encanta probar sitios nuevos. 😉
Inesperado Restaurante al Mar
Inesperado is a new beach bar that opened this summer in Sanlúcar. We go here quite often for breakfast. The side of the restaurant has an area with tables on the same level as the sand, which is the perfect spot for letting the kids play while we eat. You’ll find a variety of simple breakfast options to choose from, my favorite is their avocado toast!

Lumiere
Lumiere is the perfect spot for breakfast or an afternoon drink. It’s conveniently located smack dab in the center of the city. I enjoy eating here while observing the hustle and bustle of the center. They’ve got several tasty breakfast options—again, my personal favorite is their avocado toast (surprise, surprise).

Cafetería Casa Dueñas
Casa Dueñas is a local favorite. You won’t find anything fancy like avocado toast or waffles, but I have yet to find a better ‘tostada mediterranea‘ anywhere else. You can choose between a variety of traditional breakfast options, i.e. toast with a combination of ham, iberian jamon, butter, tomato puree, olive oil, etc. My favorite thing to order is tostada mediterranea, which is pressed toast with ham, olive oil and fresh tomato puree. I would definitely recommend eating inside if you can; the interior is decorated with memorabilia from the 50’s through 80’s and it’s like stepping inside a Spanish time capsule—this place has a lot of personality!
What’s to like?
- Located on the city’s main street (Calle Ancha)
- Popular local spot
- Cheap traditional Spanish breakfast
- Quirky decoration inside
